Hi Reader,
The most important news is close to home. Only a couple decades ago, there were hundreds of journalists covering Kalamazoo County’s people, places, and governments.
Now, there are dozens. Thanks to readers like you, a large and growing percentage of those are the reporters and photographers of NowKalamazoo!
These are the watchdogs and investigators, the finders and tellers of inspirational stories, the fact-checkers and guide-makers, the solution-finders, tough question-askers, and arts-and-culture sharers.
That’s why we are celebrating Local News Day on April 9. It’s a nationwide reminder of the importance of reconnecting communities with trusted local news.
Here in Kalamazoo County, NowKalamazoo exists to fill that need:
- The daily newsletter brings the local news and events to you: It’s a modern version of the daily paper and a trusted alternative to scrolling social media
- Our countywide community events calendar and coverage of artists and organizations making the community a better place is intended to be a source of hope and joy
- Coverage of institutions of power has led to policy changes, and our focus on root causes of community problems has led to solutions for changing systems
The future of local news isn’t something that happens somewhere else. It is happening here – and we need you to help sustain it.
We’re raising $5,000 by April 9 and we’d like to celebrate with you at a special coffee-and-pastries get-together at Sarkozy Bakery and Cafe that morning. I hope you'll join us!
If you’re in a position to help us reach our goal, thanks! Click here now to support NowKalamazoo so we can continue connecting communities, neighborhoods, and neighbors. |
